The Sturgeon Bay Nautical Lifestyle
The Nautical influences in Sturgeon Bay are not hard to see. Ship-building has been at the heart of the local economy since the town was built. Sailing, recreational boating and fishing remain one of the biggest draws for tourists and one of the most enjoyed past-times of the locals.
There are marinas all around Sturgeon Bay and the surrounding areas and with the shipping canal cutting right through the center of Sturgeon Bay, there is easy access to both the bay of Green Bay and the waters of Lake Michigan. In fact, the shipping canal provides the only access to Green Bay from Lake Michigan without going all the way to the tip of the Door peninsula.
Sturgeon Bay Boating and Fishing Information. There are a number of different boating options in Sturgeon Bay. Many people dock their yachts at one of the marinas or anchor their sailboats in the harbor. Many others utilize the numerous boat launches throughout the area to provide access to great fishing on Lake Michigan or in Green Bay. The video below gives you an idea of what a typical day of charter fishing might be like (although the guys in the video had a really good day!)
