Door County has 13 unique and interesting Communities.

Some dot the coastline of the waters of Green Bay, while others fall along the shoreline of the waters of Lake Michigan.

If you want to travel up the Lake Michigan side of the community, you will need to drive, primarily, on Hwy 57. The Lake side is a few degrees cooler than the Bay side and you can watch a sunrise over the water from the Lake side.

If you want to travel up the Green Bay side of the peninsula, you will need to use a combination of Hwy, 42 and Bay Shore Drive. This side of Door County is a bit warmer than the Lake side and offers beautiful sunsets over the water.

Fish Creek

Fish Creek is one of the most popular communities in Door County.
It is located on the Green Bay side of the peninsula, along Highway 42.

Sturgeon Bay

Sturgeon Bay is both the Largest community and county seat of Door County.

When you arrive in Door County, by car, you have to pass through this town to reach the rest of the county. Being the largest town, you can expect to find a wider range of businesses than anywhere else and it will be that last place that you can enjoy any fast food chain restaurants, late night prescription fulfillment, 24 hour groceries and Wal-Mart.

Egg Harbor

Egg Harbor is located on the Green Bay side of Door County.
It is located right after Carlsville on Highway 42 and right before Juddville.

Sister Bay

Sister Bay is one of the larger places on the peninsula.
The interesting part of this town is that both the highways meet here. Both Hioghway 42 and Highway 57 converge at the southern end of the community.

Ephraim

Ephraim is on the Green Bay side of Door County.
After you leave Fish Creek and head north, you will pass through this village.
Be prepared for a slow time of it....when the tourist season is at its peak.....getting through here can be miserable.

Ellison Bay

Ellison Bay is on the Green Bay side of Door County
it is after Sister Bay and before Gills Rock (the "top o' the thumb").
This is a quaint little village.

Gills Rock

This little place is right after Ellison Bay. you cant drive any further north up Door County after this place.
The ferry to Washington Island and Rock Island leave from Here.

Jacksonport

Jacksonport is on Hioghway 57,on the Lake Michigan side of Door County.
It is located north of Institute and south of Baileys Harbor.
They have the Polar Bear swim here, on new years day.
